Summer’s here!

Our flowers are loving this season, and so are we

The gardens maintained by the Stafford Garden Club are full of color this summer, and we have enjoyed creating islands of beauty throughout town. We planted in the rain, watered in the dry heat, and breathed sighs of relief when the rain comes.

Our garden journey began in November when a small group of club members met to choose the plants and colors for our hanging baskets on Main Street and our gardens throughout town. We chose two Proven Winner® recipes – Rockin' Out and Avalon – to provide a burst of white, yellow, and purple in the hanging baskets on Main and Spring Streets.

After settling on our selections, a grower started the seeds in winter and shipped them to friends at Foster Hill Farm in Stafford and Woodward Greenhouses in Chaplin in March, where the small plants continued to grow in greenhouses.

We picked up the flowering baskets and flats in late May, and hung the baskets on Main and Spring Streets, and planted them in our gardens on a rainy and cold Memorial Day weekend.

Now they're thriving in the summer sun.

We couldn't fill our gardens with flowers without the generous donations from our wonderful community, and we are grateful for your support. We would love for you all to take a walk through or drive by and enjoy the gardens we care for and see how we have used your contributions all around town.
